The scupper holes on sit on top kayaks are there to allow any water entering the kayak to drain away. Water can also flush slightly upwards through these holes but will quickly drain away afterwards. Scupper bungs, also called scupper plugs, fill these drainage holes to stop water coming up through them, they also prevent water draining from the kayak. Scupper bungs can be used in flat calm environments where water is unlike to wash over the kayak, they can help you achieve a drier ride on flat water.
