Islander jive
The Islander Jive is a touring kayak perfect for exploring the extensive UK waterways. It's an extremely comfortable boat, which goes some way to explain its popularity. The integrated moulded seat offers a neutral paddling position, whilst the adjustable backrest ensures a bespoke fit to the paddler. Slide lock footrests are easily adjustable from the seat and allow for paddlers with various length legs. Also, well designed padded thigh/knee foams are present around the oversized cockpit rim to add comfort and precise handling.
The well designed rounded hull also has a slight keel and adjustable drop-down skeg to help the kayaks straight-line tracking- particularly useful in days of adverse weather or crosswinds to maintain speed and direction. The distinct keel at the bow helps the boat to slice through swell and carve nicely through the water, allowing the Jive to be paddled along the coat as well as calmer waters.
Storage for the Jive comes from the large oval hatch located at the stern of the boat, with a watertight bulkhead behind the seat. When the hatch cover is opened a surprisingly large watertight comportment is revealed, perfect for any larger items that you may wish to carry – such as a trolley, picnic or perhaps overnight camping equipment. When not in use this area acts as a large buoyancy chamber in the event of a capsize. An elasticised deck line just in front of the cockpit in easy reach, offers handy storage for smaller more essential items such as a windproof cagoule or map.
Designed to explore gentler waters the Jive is well suited to inland waterways and calm coastal routes, but due to its ample storage and tracking capabilities it's not limited to short trips and will be more than adequate to do longer paddles or even multiple days at a time. The Jive was formally known as the Dagger Blackwater- a hugely popular kayak over the years.
