Old Town Discovery 158
Like all the boats in the Old Town Discovery Series, the 158 is constructed from extremely durable three-layer plastic, which gives the canoe a very high strength to take any knocks or bumps. The 158 is truly a classic all-round canoe, and at home on sheltered waters, lakes, canals and slow-moving rivers. This boat is very adaptable and by adding extra buoyancy can be taken onto faster rapids and progress through moving water skills.
Old Town have been moulding the same Discovery 158 for over 30 years now, and it has been one of the best-selling canoes ever made. Not only is the boat extremely hard-wearing, it is also stable, predictable and very easy to paddle. Hence why it is the go-to choice for many hire operators, canoe clubs and outdoor education centres. Many private canoeists will have taken their first strokes in an Old Town Discovery or had the pleasure of paddling one at some point in their paddling history. For those that like the legendary strength and predictability of the Discovery 158, it is still a hugely popular choice.
For a canoe of the same design and construction, but with a much larger carrying capacity- the 158's bigger brother the Discovery 169 ccan provide an alternative option. The standard Old Town Discovery’s come supplied with 2x wood-web seats, however for high-use settings it can be supplied with hard-wearing plastic (pe) seats, and a 3rd-seat option if required the Old Town Discovery Outfitter Series is also available.
The Discovery 158 is also a popular choice amongst commercial operators and outdoor activity centres, due to its predictability and popularity over the years.
