Typhoon ps440 Extreme
The PS440 is the new flagship, hinge-entry sea kayaking drysuit from Typhoon. Designed for sea kayaking and touring, the PS440 is made out of breathable yet durable fabrics. The suit comes with latex wrist seals to keep the water out, and a glideskin neoprene neck for additional comfort in salt water. Velcro cuffs at the wrist and waist help to improve the fit. If the elements are really against you or turn while you are out, the additional zip off fleece lined storm collar and roll out hi-viz hood offers protection from the elements. Whilst the reflective strips across the suits shoulder help visibility in poorer light conditions. The removable hood is a great feature, as it can be taken off on finer days, or whilst practicing to roll.
Entry into and out of the PS440 is via the easy waist hinge-zip, slide on the bottom half, lift on the internal brace system – put your cards/ keys into the internal dry pocket, then head and arms into the top half. Most paddlers can use the waist zip by themselves without the aid of a 2nd person (as with most rear shoulder zips). The waist band also contains a double layer to pair up with a spray deck if required.
The suit has reinforcements at the high areas of wear – knees and seat giving better durability. Other well thought out features include an accessory attachment patch on the sleeve, well suited for a rescue knife and a splash-proof map pocket on the leg – if the conditions are not suitable for leaving it on your deck.
